CELESTIAL PUMPKINS

Carved pumpkins and strings of lights may seem holidays apart, but brought together, the result is enchanting. To give your pumpkin the llok of a small galaxy, use a drill to pierce it with tiny holes in a pattern of your choice. After you've inserted the lights, admire your cluster of stars up close.

1. Turn the pumpkin on its side, and use a knife to carve out a circular opening in teh bottom. Make the opening large enough so your hadn can fit comfortably through it. Hollow out the pumpkin. With a separated loop tool, scrape away the pumpkin's inner wall until it's about 1/4 inch thick.

2. Turn the pumpkin right-side up. Drill holes using a 1/4-inch bit; use tape as a guide for a uniform pattern, or make randomly spaced holes.

3. Insert a string of lights through the bottom of the pumpkin, and place one bulb in each hole, pushing bulbs through so they protrude slightly. Tuck the remaining lights into the pumpkin, and turn it right side up with the cord running out from the bottom.
