beauty and the street
birdhouse for a family

we put this birdhouse up on the other back corner of the awning from
the bird feeder. at first we didn't know what to do. do you advertise
a new birdhouse? and how? are the rates acceptable? we thought it had
remained empty, but we startd seeing some twigs poking out, but we
never heard anything. i went to move it one day for the housewarming
party and a small finch flew out. turns out it's been occupied. by now
the eggs have hatched and the birds are growing. we haven't seen them try
and leave yet, but i hope to see that soon.
as beth puts it, we provided low cost afforable housing in ann arbor, a
high price market. it's near food, trees, and many natural predators (the
number of cats in the neighborhood is large and seems to be growing).
