Date: Fri, 13 Sep 1996 23:58:25 -0400 From: PackageThf@aol.com Subject: scrapbook x's (the Superchunk Internationale eMailing List) Hello there all - just wanted to get out one more issue before a brief hiatus (a week of vacation and then heading back up to school). and, FYI, this issue is mainly a mix of info from me, Jon Wurster himself, and RBJ8A9F@panam1.panam.edu. so let's get started.... first, australia is STILL ON. dates are still tenative, but here they are again: Nov. 15 - Brisbane - The Roxy Nov. 16 - Canberra - The Anu Bar Nov. 17 - Sydney -The Metro (2 shows that day) Nov. 20 - Perth - The Planet Nov. 22 - Adelaide - Tivoli Nov. 23 - Melbourne - Corner Hotel (2 shows that day) Nov. 25 - Auckland, New Zealand - The Power Station Scheduled to open for Superchunk is an Australian band named the First Pencil. - - - Although last week's portastatic show went well (see review below), the superchunk show in long island was forcibly cancelled. Why? First of all, Hurricane Fran knocked a large tree onto Jon Wurster's house, putting a hole in the roof, knocking off random shingles, and water-damaging some of the house. (don't fret, it's all fixable and no one was hurt.) But secondly, Jim Wilbur got poison ivy all over his hands - he can't even pick up a guitar. (he was clearing some brush near his place and...i guess he grabbed the wrong thing.) this also forced the band to delay a recording session to record a new track for the upcoming Suburbia movie (see last mailer for details), but at worst it will just be delayed...it'll still make it to the soundtrack. (the song is as of yet still untitled) But speaking of tours, the "scouring the south" tour at the end of october is still on, but dates and cities are still up in the air - I will hopefully have them within two weeks for you. And speaking of soundtracks, "Hyper Enough" will be on the soundtrack to TROMEO & JULIET, from Troma Films, the people who brought you The Toxic Avenger and Class of Nuke 'Em High. I asked Jon how that happened - he said that a coordinator at Troma sent them all this stuff on the film and praised them endlessly, so they decided to let them use the song, just for fun. Update on the Superchunk ep ("the laughing guns"): release date is scheduled as Oct. 22, but as the release is probably still going to be Merge-mail-order only, who knows what that means? In any case, it seems to be limited to a 5,000 CD pressing only. (again, see the last mailer for more info on this) As the date gets closer, I should have ordering info, prices, and so forth. In PORTASTATIC release news, there is a new Portastatic song "Not the Same" on the EXTRA WALT! dbl 7" compilation. Merge may sell this comp but Spott (the Merge office god) is not sure if he can find some copies yet. He expects to know within the next couple of weeks. In addition - also on Oct. 22 - Merge will release a new Porta single, including two 4-track songs: "Spying on the Spys" & "Do you Want to Buy a Bridge" (no word as to what mediums it will be avaliable on.) - - - - check out an interview with laura at: http://sunsite.unc.edu/stayfree/9/laura.htm - - - - The aforementioned Porta review from TurtleAxis@aol.com: mac played the keyboard on all his new songs & san andreas. matt, ben, & jenifer were there & played the whole time. & there was another person on keyboards (whose name eludes me this time). anyhow, they opened w/ a new instrumental. played several new tracks including "huricaine warning" & "if u could sing". both good upbeat numbers. the familiar songs that were performed were: "san andreas" "taking u w/ me" a great full band version of "isn't that the way" & "anne frank". a short set, but overall very good. - - - - and, in case you get a chance, check out the Japanese import for STRINGS (which also includes the "hyper enough" b-sides, incidentally) it comes with lyrics, some of which are quite funny....whoever did them obviously has no concern for correct grammar....I'll retype some of them for you in the near future because some of them are so bad! well, that's all for now - a brief hiatus for me, as i mentioned, but i'll be back with all sorts of information. - dave - - - - - THE WEB: my new PAGE, check it out! - THE BIG DAVE PAGE: http://www.tripod.com/~Superchunk +the CHUNKLIST FAQ: http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/chunkfaq.html +the HERE WITH SUPERCHUNK site: http://www-personal.umich.edu/~mransfrd/superchunk +back issues of the mailing list: http://www-personal.umich.edu/~mransfrd/superchunk/news.html
