Ultra-Mini-Quick-Mega Vacation. I worked until 2:30 am this morning and got the
O.K. to bail on work at 7:30 just in time to meet my friends on a ski trip to
Blue Mountain. Blue Mountain is outside of Collingwood, ON, about two hours
north of Toronto.
I don't ski though I had decided I wanted to learn to snowboard. We arrived
in time for the night session and I spent 4 hours throwing myself down a mountain.
4 very painful and cathartic hours--I smiled the whole time. All my
problems, stresses, and psychological pain was many kilometers away. It was
just me, the damn board, and a snowy hill. I made a lot of progress, my last run
consisted of only one total biff and two controlled falls.
During the evening I
managed to do a flying flip that would have looked acrobatic if I would have
landed on my board, but rather I landed on my rib cage. The resultant injury
made it very painful for me to reach down and get my right foot out of the
binding for the trip up the lift (and subsequent tumble, fall, and scramble to get
out of the way of the skiers laughing their asses off while riding the incoming lift).
I met bil in the lodge bar and eased my physical pain with shots of vodka and
Tanqueray and Tonics. The rest of the night was a very happy blur. We
bar hopped around the area and ended the night at Jozo's (the "club" in our
hotel) with our new favourite band
Popjoy! Pop Punk Covers! Very funny and fairly skilled. Even better when
totally loaded. Bill R and I though the lead singer was amazingly HOTTT. bil
thought she looked like a man. Majority Rule. She's hottt.
