Nice youy send us dmesgs, but a short overview which combinations show
_which_ boot problem really would help.
The GENERIC kernels boot well. But no chance with MP kernels.
pr-dlsr533 (2 cpus installed) hangs after:
pctr: user-level cycle counter enabled
ncl-ds1r1 (1 cpu installed) repeats (for ever):
sd0(gdt0:0:0): timed out
One of your dmesgs show the machine you describe as "asus pr-dlsr533
(with 2 cpus on board)" as really having 4 cpus. This machine shows no
signs of errors, afaks.
That was, because Hyperthreading was enabled. dmesgs with different bios
options follow.
