X.org neomagic very slow, flickering

Hello crowd, especially Matthieu,
upgrading my Sony VAIO C1XD to X.org, I noticed some problems:
- No virtual screen anymore, "Virtual" statement seems to be ignored
- X server feels slow and flickers every time when there is much moving
text in an xterm
The graphics chip is neomagic; I attach the dmesg as well as my
xorg.conf for your information.
Searching on misc@ and tech@ revealed no previous thread about x.org and
neomagic to me.
The wikis on x.org did not contain information on the problem either.
Searching on the net led me to a page of Paul Weissmann
(http://doorslam.net/tp600/)
where he describes problems with neomagic and X.org similar to mine.
Does anyone know more about the problem or can point me to further
information?
