adaptec 1542 problems (WAS: Re: Error setting up sound card)

I have a old 486 i would like to put to use. I do not succeed
in doing so, please see attachement.

Who can point me to the right mail where i can find some answers,

I did check the mailing lists. i searched for combinations of
1542 and aha with or without the bug tracking numbers both on
misc and tech. 

All i found was some other user that had a problem with 3.0 and
the adaptec 1542 adapter, without a satisfying explonation.

Could anyone point me at the mail Theo refers to here? I would
like to put this computer to use.
