i've lost the original message, but I can confirm the third
ln -s ./ test
ln -s ./ test
ln -s ./ test
hangs generic 2.4/sparc (in my case an SS4).
It dosen't hang completely, though...
at first, just the window that the commands were executed in.
I could (for example) ktrace the ln PID,
however ln wasn't doing anything... :-\
from there on, any directory operations, cd, pwd, et al
would hang whatever window they were run in.
The machine continued to run (sans any useable xterms),
was pingable, etc. until it was rebooted.
