Arla problem: delayed failure

I am having a very peculiar problem. OpenBSD 2.4 install, from CD. For the
first 48 hours or so after boot, I can access all my data mounted on /afs.
However, after about 2 days, I can not get to /afs/umich.edu. I have
tried:
[root_(_at_)_optiserv /] umount /afs
[root_(_at_)_optiserv /] /sbin/mount_afs /dev/xfs0 /afs
[root_(_at_)_optiserv /] /usr/libexec/afsd -z
[root_(_at_)_optiserv /] cd /afs/umich.edu
bash: cd: /afs/umich.edu: Unknown error: 13
[root_(_at_)_optiserv /] cd /afs/citi.umich.edu
[root_(_at_)_optiserv citi.umich.edu] ls
bin etc lib machdep partitions user usr
[root_(_at_)_optiserv /] cd /afs/iastate.edu
[root_(_at_)_optiserv iastate.edu] ls
academic group pmax_ul43a rental software win_nt
alpha_dux40 info private restore software.new
alpha_osf32c pmax_ul4 project service system
common pmax_ul43 public sgi_62 users

The only error that appears in /var/log/daemon is:
Feb 9 19:44:31 optiserv arla[1228]: rx_init: Unknown error: )

Anyone have any clue as to why my access to /afs/umich.edu is now
unavailable until reboot? (I can ping the AFS servers fine, btw)

Thanks,
Jeremie Kass
