please upgrade to 2.33.
there have been many portability fixes.

you might want to try "./configure --build" which will do
configure && makemake && make && make check
e.g.,
./configure --fsstnd=openbsd --with-dynamic-ffi --with-module=regexp \
--with-module=syscalls --build my-favourite-build-directory
Other modules you might want to build with are
pcre
clx/new-clx
postgresql
