For the record, I'd like to say, I really hate configure. Anyway, with
some ugly overrides and backquotes and things, I've got R now building
as a normal user. (ie, i can build as ckuethe:ckuethe).
The demo suite (including graphical demos) works for me on i386 -current.
Anyone with other architectures is more than welcome to test.

GDB has a 'break' feature; why doesn't it have 'fix' too?
