Did you change your shell limits before compiling? A warning should be
printed (this warning is removed in ports -current, you are running
ports -stable I hope) when you start compiling that you need high memory
_limits_ for compiling KDE. Or you can try current, patches have been
committed to ld to remove the insane memory requirements for compiling
KDE.
