My experience with shredded mbrs and disklabels is that murphy's
law will apply whenever you think you've restored the disk layout
correctly, i.e. it appears to be o.k., but later you get weird
errors.

I strongly advice to backup the `backup' drive before doing anything
else to it. And then search for filesystems with scan_ffs(8), as
noted in my previous mail. If, for whatever reason, the drive
contained ext2 filesystems, fetch the e2fsprogs sources and try to
compile misc/findsuper.c.
