some time before i asked on this list if anybody could
mount their iriver.
apparently this nice player uses the fat in an absolutely
non-standard way: must format for fat but understands long
names and other nastyness...
after plugging in you get:
umass0 at uhub1 port 2 configuration 1 interface 0
umass0: iRiver iFP-3xx, rev 1.10/1.00, addr 3
umass0: using SCSI over Bulk-Only
scsibus1 at umass0: 2 targets
sd0 at scsibus1 targ 1 lun 0: <iRiver, iFP Mass Driver, 1.00> SCSI0 0/direct removable
sd0: 500MB, 500 cyl, 64 head, 32 sec, 512 bytes/sec, 1024000 sec total
but 'fdisk sd0' calls you crazy and 'disklabel sd0' says leave me out of this:
# size offset fstype [fsize bsize cpg]
c: 1024000 0 unused 0 0 # Cyl 0 - 499
so i say to myself, no chance mounting anything here.
but from the old days past i recalled the big neon letters: mtools..
well why not, let's have fun.
so i installed the package (in ports)
amaaq> cat .mtoolsrc
and here i am:
amaaq> mdir e://1999-stay-down/\*

it is not perfect, as everybody knows, there are 16 songs on
two lone swordman's "stay down", but it's a good start.
so head up people, one less reason to boot xp.
to burning hell with it. on second thought, not until i finish morrowind...
