latitude c600/ 3c556 dual-boot issue

Hi,

I have a dual-boot dell latitude c600 (bios rev a03, not the latest) displaying the following problem:

when switching os'es and rebooting, the 3c556 hangs on boot each time, requiring 2 iterations of the boot process to boot into win2k and 3 to boot into OpenBSD 3.6 or -current:

once at : cbb0 at pci0 dev 3 function 0 ...

a second time at: xl0 at pci0 dev 16 function 0 ...

Each time from OpenBSD the machine does a hard reboot at these points and boots fine on the third try.

Now, I've lived with this for a few months, but using the 18.01.05 snapshots it doesn't even get there, but hangs and reboots right after memory detection, subsequent reboots do the same.

This was solved today by booting bsd.rd once and rebooting, but I would rather avoid this on a daily basis.

I am aware that this is not an OpenBSD problem in itself, and that flashing my bios might resolve it, but before I do that, perhaps someone here has run into something similar and could enlighten me as to what could be the cause of this behaviour?

I have dual-booted a lot of machines and never seem anything like this. Both os'es use dhcp for obtaining an ip, and I am using the nt bootloader to boot off of.

thanks,

mike
