Just writting this hoping that someone will find it useful.
My laptop dual boots between XP and OBSD and of course the winmodem in
the laptop only works with windows.
Anyway, I found myself in a situation where the only Internet access I
had was with dial up, the only computer I had was this laptop and I
really wanted an obsd application to access the Internet.
I have used OBSD on MS Virtual PC 2004 with good success in the past.
Just set the network adapter in Virtual PC to Shared NAT and set obsd to
use dhcp on its adapter. Works well.
It wasn't working well when my laptop was using a modem and not the
ethernet card for Internet access.
After some buggering around, i found that if i disabled the ethernet
card in Windows so that the dial up connection was the only enable
connection left, fired up Virtual PC, it would complain that there was
no network connection. Just ignore that message, start up OBSD
configured to use DHCP and it just works. OBSD thinks it's talking to an
ethernet card, but your data goes out your modem.
OBSD using a winmodem. OK, it's a cheats way, but it got me on the
internet with obsd from home. (Saved me from having to go back into work)
