yeah, we don't eliminate minimum system requirements just because it is
a laptop. And most laptops are not processor upgradable...
I *highly* doubt your machine has the 16M RAM required for an easy
install, and probably not the 12M or so you would need to get a
slow install in place...or even the 8M required for a "know what
you are doing" install.

wild guess: sounds like you have the stock 4M (or so) of RAM in it, and
it is very unhappy with that...
