They are true - "linux only" ;-)
Have you tried
setenv CDR_DEVICE '/dev/cd0c:0,4,0'
setenv CDR_FIFOSIZE 8m
setenv CDR_SPEED 12
vcdimager -l 'Some film 1/2' -vp some_film_1.mpg
sudo cdrdao write --device $CDR_DEVICE video.cue
sudo cdrecord blank=fast
sudo cdrecord -v -eject some_image.iso
You haven't provided your dmesg and scanbus outputs
