I played around with encrypted virtual filesystems, not really the same
as encrypting a whole partition, but depending on your need it works
okay.
I found a small guide to using encrypted virtual filesystem on
http://www.backwatcher.org/writing/howtos/obsd-encrypted-filesystem.html
I found it really helpful, and the author also outlines some of the
problem with it. Oh, and it works without you having to make a
custom kernel.
