Re: CF card install

Check out man pages for installboot, disklabel, fdisk, and newfs

Setup a host machine with a complete OpenBSD install on it. Attach a CF
reader and card to the USB port. Mount the drive and tar or dump the OS

Subject: CF card install

I am trying to install OpenBSD 3.5 on a 1GB CF card directly.

The problem I am having is that when I get to the partioning stage of
the install, my CF card only allows me yo user about 40-50 mb, and I
don't know why. Do I have to do something to prepare the card for
installation? Can I not install directly to the CF card like you can
for a hard drive?

The card is recognized as a 1GB card in the dmesg.

I have attached a hard drive and installed openbsd 3.5 on it just so I
could get the dmesg and disklabel of the card. I have attached the
dmesg of the system running with a 120GB hard disk at wd0 and the CF
card at wd1. Please note the system I am aiming for will not have the
hard drive
and the CF card will be wd0. Also note that the disklabel of the CF
card shows partitions from my unsucessful attempt to install to the CF

The motherboard is a Via Epia MII, the CF card is a SanDisk 1GB Extreme.

I have looked at all the Soekris CF card installation projects that
I am using this for more then a firewall and I would like a complete
OpenBSD installation.

I appreciate any advice. Thanks.
