A thanks to all who replied. I actually have a 4039-12R (not
10plus), but from this link
http://www.cpacinc.com/ProductLine/Printers/Description/ibm_lex_4039_12R.html
and from the printer's menu'ing interface it certainly has
Postscript lvl1 built into it.
So I used the information on linuxprinting.org, downloaded a generic
postscript ppd (adobe made) from the lexmark driver website,
downloaded the foomatic-rip from linuxprinting.org (didn't modify it
- yet, so I don't really know if it actually does anything) modified
printcap accordingly, started lpd by hand (set rc.conf to start on
next reboot), started nmbd & smbd by hand, and installed the equiv
postscript printer driver for the win98 test machine, ran a test
print. Indeed I Needed to fix some permissions on some
files/directories, but horay! I had the win98 test page spat out by
the printer.
Now to improve the print resolution (the win logo looked 300x300dpi
to me), find a way to use the added duplexing unit and perhaps check
out windows print services for unix.
But at least I don't have to wait in order to print out my income
tax paper and get my return ;)
Thanks again,
Peter Verhagen
