Proper use of openlog_r and syslog_r?

Hi

    when using the reentrant syslog functions openlog_r() and 
syslog_r(), do I have to pass the "struct syslog_data" element I used 
for openlog_r() to the subsequent syslog_r() calls?  Or can I use a 
separate initialized "struct syslog_data" element for each syslog_r() call?
