xchat2-2.0.4.tgz is the name of the package Richardis referring too (i use it, 
it reminds me alot of mIRC that I used to use in Windows)

a basic IRC client, KSirc, is included with kdenetwork-3.1.3.tgz package

you can also find some basic commands for IRC
