NIC itself.

Subject: mediocre network throughput using intel 82557 fxp driver

hello all,

i'm at loss to explain mediocre network throughput on my openbsd 3.4
release. i'm using the intel 82557 nic on old dell optiplex gx1 (pentium
233 mmx) as a firewall box.

using a 200 mb test file (ftp), at best i can only sustain 4 mb/s with pf
enabled, 5 mb/s without. i know this chipset is more than capable than just
4-5 mb/s.

pf rules is very basic, pass in/out all.

is there a sysctl tweak that i can do to rectify this problem or is it the
box that is too slow?
