Because of the license. It's GPL'ed. And because lynx has some other
features that make it much more than just a textbrowser. w3m would be a
nice alternative since it support a lot of those features and has an
unrestrictive license. But allas it doesn't work.

understand why links is not a good idea.
But links is in ports & packages so you can have links installed 5
minutes after a succcesfull install ;-)
