So as not to leave the thread on this hanging --
I took Alfred Breull's off-list advice and used MSW2k's disk
administration tool (control panel) to delete and re-create obsd's boot
partition as an empty, unformatted partition, then re-installed obsd
using the same setup as before, with the bulk of the obsd partitions in
the gap between MBR partitions. Haven't had any repeats of the error
messages yet.
Thanks, man.
(And as he pointed out, the side-effects of the differences of opinion
about partition sorting order between the MSW/DOS formatting tools and
obsd's fdisk have been mentioned on several previous threads. I remember
reading it, since he mentioned it, but I couldn't find it in the
archives. I seem to be pretty lousy at picking search terms these days.)
Next time I wipe the MSW2k partitions on this guy, I'll try to remember
to try putting the obsd boot partition and the FAT32 sharing partition
in the MSW2k extended partition. That should leave me two BIOS
partitions so I can triple boot comfortably with freeBSD or whatever.
