ppp - pppoe handshaking convergence

Hello,
on my ADSL line I use OpenBSD as gateway.
I experimented many ppp.conf settings untill I reached the best
configuration.
Anyway when I have to reset the gateway reboot or whatever the ppp
connection needs some time before being succesfull.
The handshaking with the provider is somewhat troublesome. With FreeBSD I
had similar ppp.conf and I never had problems. I won't call
the provider they support only windows clients so they won;t bother with
me anyway the log file tells this:

Mar 29 19:11:51 juno ppp[16318]: Phase: deflink: HUPing 2945
Mar 29 19:11:51 juno ppp[16318]: Phase: deflink: hangup -> opening
Mar 29 19:11:51 juno ppp[16318]: Phase: deflink: Enter pause (3) for
redialing.
Mar 29 19:11:54 juno ppp[16318]: Phase: deflink: Connected!
Mar 29 19:11:54 juno ppp[16318]: Phase: deflink: opening -> dial

Mar 29 19:12:04 juno ppp[16318]: Phase: deflink: read (0): Connection

Mar 29 19:12:04 juno ppp[16318]: Phase: deflink: Disconnected!
Mar 29 19:12:04 juno ppp[16318]: Phase: deflink: lcp -> logout
Mar 29 19:12:04 juno ppp[16318]: Phase: deflink: Disconnected!
Mar 29 19:12:04 juno ppp[16318]: Phase: deflink: logout -> hangup
Mar 29 19:12:04 juno ppp[16318]: Phase: deflink: Connect time: 10 secs: 0
octets in, 72 octets out
Mar 29 19:12:04 juno ppp[16318]: Phase: deflink: 0 packets in, 32 packets
out
Mar 29 19:12:04 juno ppp[16318]: Phase: total 7 bytes/sec, peak 7
bytes/sec on Sat Mar 29 19:11:58 2003

After 10 or 20 retries finally the connection is established.
Anyone might have some hints on what tweak I could do to my ppp.conf file
to improove handshake convergence?

thanks

Rick
