installer bug?

I have an intermittent problem while trying to install -current over FTP
where it will freeze either partway through or immediatelly after
finishing with base*.tgz.  This has been happening over the last month
and a half (with various downloads every week or so for testing).  I do
not know why it stops.  Is there some kind of test I can run to give a
better error report?
