one of the cisco switches is indeed a C2924XL. it sucks indeed, but not a
single port has fixed speed or duplex there either, nor do I have any manual
media setting on one of the connected boxens either - many dc(4)s, some
hme(4), and 10hdx only ones like ie(4) and le(4).
I have yet to see this cisco-autoneg-sucks people keep talking about, I have
not had ANY problem ever.
