instalation of intel pro 1000/MT ethernet adapters

Hi. We recently upgraded our firewall from 100 mb ethernet (pair of 3c905's)
to gigabit, on a pair of Intel PRO 1000/MT desktop adapters. These adapters
are listed on the BSD hardware compatablity list as compatable. They are
listed under the em driver.
Durring boot, the machine displays the following kernel message:
vendor "Intel", unknown product 0x100x (class network, subclass ethernet, rev
0x02) at pci0 dev 8 function 0 not configured
vendor "Intel", unknown product 0x100x (class network, subclass ethernet, rev
0x02) at pci0 dev 9 function 0 not configured
the devices are not present in the fully booted environment. How do we
configure these devices? any help would be greatly apreciated, thanks in
advance.

laziness is the ultimate motivation of all good system administrators,
any time they can automate, out-source, or otherwise eliminate a task
from their regular routine, it allows them to be more lazy. A truly
lazy system admin would never have to do anything, because everything
would be either automated and done by the machine, or done by users.
The education of users also fulfills this laziness goal, an educated
user will both be more productive, and require less of the admin.
