Hi Folks,
I was about to write in clearing this card and its drivers, because although
cd install led to a hang, ftp install worked fine. Then I tried to run the
backup script which addresses the internal SCSI tape drive ... Of course it
may not be the card or its driver, but a bunch of other stuff. However the
whole assembly was running fine under 2.9 yesterday. The hang during install
looked a lot like this one, caused by trying to access the tape drive:

I had to type that out, so hope it's right and actually helps.
I installed fine over ftp, cvs-up'd to stable and rebuilt fine, and got system
usable, then tried to back it up. I don't mind not being able to use the cd
on that machine, but if the whole thing goes over addressing the tape drive,
then it becomes a headache. Any thoughts / advice from anyone? Anything
I've done wrong / could do different?
