I did get a reply via email and it was suggested to me that I make sure
I don't have a SCSI disk with an ID of 0 on it. I changed the ID on my
system's internal SCSI disk to 1 and "fsck" was able to repair the
filesystems and the system booted all the way up into multi-user mode.
I haven't tried accessing the SCSI CDROM drive again but I guess I'll
give it a try and see what happens.
