So I started updating my SPARCstation 4 to -stable last night & it's
taking forever. Not, however, in the usual sense: I mean the same
text has been in the same place on the console since before I went to
bed, & I actually got 8 hours of sleep for once. The box is not
crashed: I can ssh in no problem & it's serving up web pages just
fine. Before I went out last night, I updated source via CVS, rebuilt
the kernel, rebooted with the new kernel, & did the following:
# cd /usr/src
# rm -r /usr/obj/*
# make obj && make build
Aside from the "rm: no match" error trying to remove obj files from a
sparkling new source tree, all seemed to be going as normal. I went
out for a few hours & came back to find the console about 80% full of
very stationary text instead of 100% full of rapidly scrolling text.
There's a bunch of stuff in /usr/obj now & ps shows "make build"
running, so it looks like it made it through "make obj" before it
decided to wander off.
I am perplexed. Lacking any input, I'll just wait a few days, update
the source again, & see if the problem persists, but I'd like to know
what's going on. Various potentially helpful info follows:
