Problem installing ports?

Hi all,

   When I installed the ports collection for the first
time I was able to install any port by running "make
install" but after playing around with svsup to
upgrade the ports, I can no longer install any port.
When I type "make install" inside a port, i get the
error:
"make: dont know how to make install. Stop in
/usr/ports/..."

What is the cause for such problem? Arent the ports
supposed to have all the necessary information to
install themselves?
