ld segfault on mozilla build

Hi.  I tried to build Mozilla 1.1 recently, and ended up
with a 4.9 Gb ld.core file in my build directory.  I'm
building it on a machine with 256 Mb Ram and 512Mb swap
space running 3.1-stable.  Towards the end of the build I
get a message about ld having a segmentation fault (signal
11).  I ran a google search on this and didn't come up with
anything.  Where should I look for solutions?
