Openssh out of buffers?

I compiled openssh from the latest released version following all
the correct directions.

I am at 3.4:

Escape character is '^]'.
SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_3.4

I didnt modify source code, but I cant log in (as above). I see alot of 
postings on this, but no answers!?
