The DFE 580-TX uses a different chip than the 570-TX, and thus a
different driver: ste(4). If you don't use multicast, the supplied
driver works fine as it is since at least 3.1-RELEASE, and probably
before.

The multicast filter appears to be broken, so if you need IPv4
multicast reception to work, I'd suggest searching the archives for a
crude patch that I posted several months ago. If you need multicast
reception in other protocols, patch the patch accordingly. (Or, even
better, fix the multicast hash filter programming for even better
performance.)

I've heard rumors that the 580s with the ste driver are problematic
under high load, but I've yet to observe that myself. If that's true,
it might as well be a problem with the card or the chip itself, and
not the driver, but I really wouldn't know.

Hope this helps,
