PCMCIA modem configuration

Good day,

I've got OpenBSD 3.1 installed on an IBM Thinkpad 1161, and have everything 
working quite well. I've been using a GVC 33k pcmcia modem (Cirrus Logic 
chipset), and recently bought a GVC 56k pcmcia modem (Lucent Venus chipset). 
Both modems are recognized and work well in Redhat 7.3, with which I 
dual-boot OBSD. However, I can't get the 56k modem to respond in OBSD, either 
with ppp, tip, or minicom. It comes out as pccom3 => /dev/cua03, which I also 
use for the 33k modem, running right now. I can't get any responses of any 
sort to AT commands (or any commands!) with the 56k. Is there anything I 
should be looking for? My dmesg with the 56k modem, along with the diff from 
the dmesg with the 33k modem, is below. If the Lucent Venus chipset means no 
go for OBSD, so be it, but I'd like to not have to swap the cards 
back'n'forth if not needed. I suspect the problem is with the "irq mask 86bc" 
in the 56k dmesg, but frankly I don't know where to go from there. Thanks for 
any hints anyone can provide.
