I have an Advansys SCSI card for which I'm looking for an
alternative. There is a lingering bug in the adv driver which plops
me into the debugger every time I get a tape error. This is starting
to get old. (The st driver apparently times out, and then there
seems to be some confusion about deallocating the ccb; either the st
driver or the adv driver seems to do it, then an "extra" interrupt
comes in from my tape drive -- an HP 4/8 DAT [am not at the location
of this system, so I don't have the exact model number handy.] When
this happens kaboom, the kernel panics because it doesn't have an
allocated ccb. I posted about it many moons ago, with full dmesg
etc., and the driver maintainer, Ken Westerback, has been very
helpful, but so far we haven't been able to pin it down.)
I'm looking at getting an Adaptec 2930U, which if I parse the FAQ
correctly is supported. I'd appreciate hearing pro/con from anyone
using this card.
