installboot on escalade fails in last few snapshots

I have been trying to install the last several snapshots onto an
escalade 6200.  Everything goes fine until time to install boot, where
I get the error message below, basically "installboot: Too many blocks"


One difference in the install procedure, disklabel usually starts with
a default of "63" for the offset of the 'a' partition/slice, with the
escalade it offers an offset of "1".  I have tried the install both
ways (with initial offset of 1 and 63) and still get the same
installboot error message.  I then tried to install to a separate IDE
drive, booted to that drive and ran the installboot program by hand
with (mounting the escalade /dev/sd0a to /mnt):
/usr/mdec/installboot -v /mnt/boot /usr/mdec/biosboot sd0
still getting the same message.

This is my first shot at using the escalade on OpenBSD and do not have
a firm grasp on how the C/H/S stuff works under these conditions.  Any
help greatly appreciated. dmesg is included below the installboot error
message.
