You can achieve this by creating a special login class for your FTP users
the ftp-dir: variable allows you to set a common ftp root for a class of users.
this will allow you to let your users keep their home directories.
you can assign a class to your users by entering their class name in
the fifth field of the passwd file with vipw.
read ftpd(8), login.conf(5) and passwd(5)
