Hi !
I have installed a 3COM 3C905 on my OpenBSD box (2.9) and I run into
some trouble. I have first installed a 3C905B but I thought that it
didn't work since I have got "command never completed" and ifconfig
showed "Ethernet (none)" as the media and refused to change it. I had
no problem with it with diagnostic utils and it works fine under
Windows 98.
I have then installed a 3COM 3C905. I don't get the "command never
completed" but I get this (with the 3C905B, I get the same thing,
except with "command never completed" twice).
xl0 at pci0 dev 19 function 0 "3Com 3c905 100Base-TX" rev 0x00: irq 9 address 00:60:08:69:97:ef
OUI 0x080017 model 0x0000 rev 1 at xl0 phy 24 not configured
ifconfig :
xl0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
media: Ethernet none (none)
inet 10.0.1.1 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 10.0.1.255
And if I try to change the media :
lucas# ifconfig xl0 media 100BaseTX
ifconfig: SIOCSIFMEDIA: Device not configured
However, all seem to work fine : I can ping other hosts without any
problem and the switch says that the connection is 100 MBps full
duplex.
I have not tested any transfer with the 3C905 but the switch said that
the connection was 10 MBps half duplex.
I don't provide entire dmesg since it may not be useful. So, just one
question : is it normal that ifconfig can't set the media (and doesn't
see it) and that I don't have a "status" line like below :
de0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
media: Ethernet autoselect (10base5)
status: active
inet 10.0.0.1 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 10.0.0.255
