Configuring a D-link DFE-530TX+

I recently installed 2.9 (via ftp) on a machine with both a D-link DFE-530TX+ and a NIC that came with the machine (a Dell Dimension XPS P200s) that uses the dc driver. The dc card works just fine; however there appears to be a problem with the D-link. It is properly identified on startup, but immediately afterwards I get:

rl0: unknown device id: 1300

And of course I can't do anything with it using ifconfig. dmesg output is below. I just want to know if I'm missing something in the configuration/use of this device. If the solution to this problem is "get a better NIC" I'll accept that too; I know these are pretty poor as far as operation quality goes.

Thanks in advance,
Tom Meschter
