X...Remotely

Since we've already got one X newbie thread going, let me add another 
(hopefully short) one.

Simply put, can I run X via a terminal? In other words, must I be sitting in 
front of my machine to run it? It's not worth installing if I can't get to 
it remotely, in my opinion.
