Problems with a Xircom RBEM56G-100 card using 2.9 snapshot

Continuing trying things I haven't done on my laptop lately, I found that I
don't seem to have a serial port for ppp on my laptop. I'm wondering if I'm
missing something?

The hardware is a ThinkPad 1480i, and the CardBus card is Xircom's
RBEM56G-100 10/100 ethernet card plus 56K modem.

The Ethernet interface via dc(4) works well, albet a little noisy at times
when it's informing me of over/under runs.

The modem I can't seem to talk with. After looking at my dmesg data
I don't see a modem at all.

Is this a known limitiation? I went trawling in the archives but I didn't
find any specific information about this problem.

Included is my dmesg for this laptop/card.
