Well.
Here is my experience installing Apr 21 05:55 snapshot yesterday
night (I was running current before that but I had problem and
decided to start anew):
Installation:
Went very well with no glitch.
Execpt media option when using dhcp are not written as expected
in /etc/hostname.if. (They are used to configure the interface
for installation though.)
/etc/hostname.dc0 contained:
dhcp NONE NONE NONE
Didn't cause any problem probably because dc0 driver was improved
and auto mode did work.
Setting XFree86 4.0.3:
SuperProbe output:
First Video: Generic VGA (or unknown SVGA)
The card is really an ASUS V7700 GeForce 2 GTS (nv driver)
xf86cfg:
xf86cfg left me 30 seconds in front a blank sreen before
starting X. This was plenty of time for me to panic and
bang on my keyboard ctrl-alt-f[234] sequence to get a console
(it didn't work) and almost get me to hit the reset button!
Maybe a warning would be good. (Either in /usr/X11R6/README
or on the terminal for a few second before xf86cfg starts
his real work.
Is that a piece of unintuitive program or what?
The program crashed when I tried to configure the keyboard
but X was still running. I didn't try a second time.
The configuration file created worked correctly.
Color Shifting Problem:
Each time a start the X server, my wsconsole shift it's
foreground color in a darker gray. After 3 start of the
X server, it becomes unreadable.
My card is not supported by XFree 3.3.6 so I can't tell if
the problem is also present in it.
I didn't have this problem while running XFree86's 4.0.2
on pcvt in February.
I restart my machine every day so it's not a big annoyance
right now.
I enabled xdm in rc.conf and it works great.
Ports:
I cvs updated the port tree and I compiled and installed the
following ports without problems:
procmail-3.15.1 fetchmail-5.8.1
gnupg-1.0.4p2-idea gettext-0.10.36
libslang-1.4.4 mutt-1.2.5i-slang
slrn-0.9.7.0a gmake-3.79.1
libproplist-0.10.1 jpeg-6b
tiff-3.5.5 png-1.0.10
giflib-4.1.0 windowmaker-0.64.0
elvis-2.1.4-no_x11 communicator-4.75p1
bzip2-1.0.1 popt-1.5.1
rpm-3.0.6 redhat_base-6.2
acroread-4.05 windowmaker-extra-0.1
I attach my dmesg output for completeness the missing information follow:
Mobo: ASUS A7V
wd0 downgrading problem arise because the mobo doesn't set
correctly the PIO and DMA mode for all my ATA/33/66 devices.
[In Win2k, it gaves me boot device inaccessible errors. So
OpenBSD recover and Win2k die on this problem.]
I hope this report can help.
