Crashing when using smbd a lot

I've got some weird and very annoying behavior with a 2.8 OpenBSD pentium 233mmx, ide drive (see dmesg below for description). The box freezes when I do large network transfers via smbd, for example, when I transfer cd images (~700mb) back and forth using a 100mbps switched network or when I uncompress a large file on the network drive (staroffice per example). It's very random and almost certain it will crash each time I transfer over 300-400 mb over the network. Before I switched it to 100mbps 2 days ago, it was at 10mpbs, and already doing the crash btw.

I first checked if the temperature was too high: no, it's cool, and the power supply is a 250W it should be powerful enough to handle the 7200rpm hard drive scratching at max. I after that recompiled the kernel adding NMBCLUSTERS=8192 (it was at 1024 before) just to see... didn't fixed a thing. I use the kernel from the stable 2.8 dist having just removed the #ifdefs in pciide.c to put my drive at DMA (cuz I need it when I uncompress large chunks), I don't have the buggy version of the Acer M5229 ide chipset I am pretty sure so I ca enable DMA no prob, seems to run very fine for everything... I would suspect something else doing this violent freeze of the machine.

About the freeze, it just freezes right there, nothing in the logs, just plain paralysis of everything, almost, cause I can type some characters on the console and they will appear on the screen but it will go worse and worse until everything is really really frozen... it's like a violent DoS hehe... but hey, I don't want this box to freeze, it's my main server!! Anybody has a clue ?
