frame buffer adjusting vertical sync_len

hi,
   Really far from the frame buffer X guru but here is a quick question.
Currently
for some reason my Satellite vertical desktop display on the LCD is in a
squished
state of the 2/3 screen view. Therefore what framebuffer settings are
responsible for
the lower x axis? Never had this not adjustable simply from the monitor
itself but
assume since this is a laptop somehow this makes a huge diff. Tried the
archives
and a few engines without much in the way of headway. Thanks for any fb
good advice.
