Weird Zipdrive

I've got a DFI Pentium/450 mboard and just added a NEC Zip drive
as secondary master (there is no secondary slave).

It can read and write Zip disks okay -- its own. It cannot read disks
made by other machines of any file system. The disks it makes cannot
be read by another machine.

I have tried:

  1. Changing the Zip drive
  2. Changing Zip disks
  3. Different file systems
  4. Changing the IDE cable
  5. BIOS setting UDMA mode from AUTO to OFF
Any tips greatly appreciated. dmesg attached below (zipdrive is sd0(c)).
