Password Database Backups.

I what would be the best way to backup and restore a password
database?  Is it possible to export the database into the equivalent
standard (aka non-blowfish passwords and use crypt stuff instead)?  That
way I can sync my password database to all of the plausible unix varients
I might need or have to use.
